A Datafolha poll has indicated that 61 percent of Brazilians fear an increase in corruption following the coming to power of President Jair Bolsonaro, while trust in the government falls to 11 percent.
The results of the poll show an increase in concern about corruption, as well as a decrease of three percentage points in the trust placed in the country’s authorities during the coronavirus pandemic, as reported by the newspaper ‘Folha de S. Paulo’.
Among the anti-government population, 77 percent said they believe that corruption will increase. Pessimism associated with corruption is higher among women, young people between 16 and 24 years old, and people with primary education, as shown by the survey.
Among opponents, around 78 percent of those polled consider that the situation favors the establishment of an anti-democratic state in the Ibero-American country.
Likewise, 70 percent of those who plan to vote for former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the upcoming elections fear a worsening of corruption, a figure that is around 40 percent among Bolsonaro voters.
